Meg, Suzanne, and Bill...should have been a few more in our picture, but it was too chilly for everyone to stick around for a pic. Brrrr... Hillsboro running club put on a great race this morning! In spite of the chilly 25 degree temperature, around 200 people made it out for the post holiday race to burn off some extra stuffing. Great job to our Fit-to-Goers, as well as our M&M Multi-sport friends. Bill and I both placed 2nd in our respective categories. And a big thumbs up to Doc Q for taking home the turkey for overall male! Way to go! Today was the third annual Litchfield Triathlon. We had a good size group of Fit-to-GOers. Nearly 250 overall participants...mostly from out of town of course. That's a big race for our community!!! Weather was a perfect 58 degree start, sunny, slightly windy ESE. Perfect day for a race! What a blast! 2nd in category...seems to be my triathlon place. ;) St Francis Life Changing 10k
September 1, 2012 In spite of the rain from Hurricane Isaac, the race went on. A small break in weather allowed for a great race Saturday morning. Gray skies and a slightly humid 75 degrees, the weather was ideal considering it should have been down pouring according the weather report. The Life Changing 10k was the third in the Fit for Life races series benefiting the Litchfield Cross Country team. A nice crowd turned up for the final race. Lots of fun! I was tickled to take home first place overall females! ...thanks to the fast girls who couldn't run because they were putting on the race. :) Good job to all the FIT-to-GOers. They took home some category awards too! A busy end to the summer, I haven't had much time to keep up with my blog. Here is what has been going on these past few weeks. Almost a race every weekend! Stone Man & Iron Abe Triathlons.Bill. Andy. Kent. Meghan. Stone Man Sprint Triathlon & Iron Abe Olympic Triathlon July 28, 2012 Beautiful 64 degree start...which is remarkable considering the heat wave we were going through. Thanks to the heat though, the lake was warm! Felt great! Bill and I both competed sprint distance (500M swim, 12 mile bike, 5k run). Kent and Andy competed Olympic (.9 mile swim, 24.8 bike, 10k run). Well put on race...especially for the large size...lots of athletes in both the sprint and olympic! I loved this race...I'll be back next year! Quadruple Bypass 4k.Bill. Lil' Sydney. Jen. Suzanne. Meghan. Lori. Quadruple Bypass 4k August 4, 2012 4k race presented by St. Francis Hospital (and benefiting the cross country team) through Arrowhead Trail and finishing Arrowhead Road (aka roller coaster road). Weather was fairly mild, but could have stood to be a bit cooler. 1st in my category! Stompin' Out Poverty 5k.Bill. Julie. Ron. Joni. Meghan. Cory. Lil' Sydney. Jen. Stompin' Out Poverty 5k 8/25/2012 Hearts United hosted a 5k benefitting their charity this morning. Lovely race morning...about 68 degrees at the starting line. Small race, but big fun. Great representation by FIT-to-GOers. All of us placed in our categories! :) Bill placed 1st overall finisher and male finisher! I placed 1st overall female! Great job everyone!!!! FIT-to-GO on the go!
July 19, 2012 Daniel Island, South Carolina While on vacation, Cory and I hit up active.com to check out the local Charleston happenings. On the agenda...The Daniel Island Twilight 5K. This race was a smaller race amongst a lot of locals. It was the second race in a four race series. In spite of the heat and 100% southern humidity, it went great! ...well aside from my usual clumsiness...The past few races I somehow managed to drop my phone...I made a joke to Cory about it as the race was starting...so this time, in the first quarter mile, a man stepped on the back of my shoe and my shoe went flying. I went to step my foot back in and then realized my headphones were wrapped around my foot. SO I had to take my shoe back off untangle the mess and shoe back on. Yes, this all took more time than I wanted to sacrifice, but more than anything I suffered the most from what it did to my heart rate. All-in-all I cannot complain...I finished first in category, second overall female! (funny...same as the Big Dawg) July 14, 2012 Litchfield, Illinois Weather started off awesome for this race at 9am....low 80s and overcast. By 1pm (my run time) the clouds were starting to dissipate and the temperature was on the rise. Whew! And by 3pm the sun and heat were in full force again! ...that was Cory and Mark's wave...poor guys. The course was great. Lots of obstacles, water, and fun! Quite a few of out-of-towners too! Nice race put on by Brain Hollo and his Big Dawg team! In spite of my distaste for trail running (my only complaint) I finished first in my age division, and second overall female. ;) Today's race was cooking! This year's fun run was another great one, but not as well attended as years past...I am certain the heat had something to do with it. I know at least 7 FIT-to-GOers who opted out due to extreme temperature. Rightfully so too!! Temperature at the start line was nearly 90 degrees. I am starting to look forward to 80 degree highs. Sounds refreshing after all this crazy heat! All of my training this week has been between 91 and 99 degrees.
Gorgeous day to do a 5k or mile for a great cause. Alicia and her team put on a lovely race, followed by a very touching ceremony in honor and in memory of those touched by cancer. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to fight cancer!
GATEWAY TRIATHLON 500m Swim, 20k Bike, 5k Run Carlyle, Illinois May 20, 2012 2nd in my category! Btw, I started the race a little bummed. I am 29 and birthday is not until September. I did not know before hand, but according to the USAT rules, you are placed into the age category according to what age you turn during the calendar year. So much for enjoying an entire last year in my twenties. On the back of my left calf was a big 3-0.
